Science!!!!!

We finally started science! We started learning about Air and Weather. Today, we learned that air takes up space. We learned this by blowing up balloons. Air can move things. We learned this by blowing things with a straw. If you blow something up in the air with a straw you can get it to float in the air! We tried this with styrofoam balls, cotton balls, a piece of paper, and feathers. All of those things were in our "Air Bags". The styrofoam balls looked like disco balls. In addition, we learned that there are 3 kinds of matter: solids, liquids, and gasses. Air is a gas. We had fun today in science! We liked experimenting.

Cade liked trying all the cookies and he was sad when they were done. It was fun! We held signs that said, "Vote for M and M cookies"! We filled out a cookie ballot. The other choices were chocolate chip and sugar cookies. The second grade teachers are going to count the votes. We'll let you know who wins! We hope you all have a great election day! Don't forget to vote.

Terrific Tuesday

Today we went to a fun assembly. We learned to be polite to people. We met a bird named Verne. The bird was really funny. The bird copied whatever Mr. Tim said. The bird said hi to the wall. The bird kissed Mr. Tim! Mr. Tim also made a balloon that flew! He made a flower sprout out of a picture. He made a balloon Rudolph that Cullen gets to take home! The assembly was fun.

We made a long prediction chain. It was as tall as the ceiling. We hung it on the wall over the door. On orange paper we wrote our first prediction. Then we wrote our ehanced predictions on green, our adjusted preditions on yellow, and our abandoned predictions on red!

We had a fun day!

The ducks said the pond was boring and they wanted a diving board! The cows said they would give the typewriter back, but the ducks kept it! The cows and hens said no more milk and eggs! We were practicing making predictions! We had to enhance, abandon, and adjust our predictions while we read! Excellent work 2G You are becoming prediction wizards!

We wrote The Important Book. It was based on the book by Margaret Wise Brown. We read Mrs. Brown Went to Town. When Mrs. Brown got to the hospital the animals took over her house. When she got back her bed broke and they all had to go to the hospital. Now they live in the barn! Today was a fun day! We got to see a Preying Mantis!!!! We got to hold it (in a box). It hangs upside down. Miss Erin found it in on the side of her house! Thank you, Miss Erin, for bringing it in! We named it Spikey! We voted! A bug should be outside to live, so we'll let Spikey go soon. We also did a math paper and a self-assessment.

Today we read a book about Dragon and his friend! We had to make predictions! As we read, we had to change our predictions! The story was funny and silly. We read the story Tomatoes to Ketchup and learned how to make ketchup! You should read it if you want to learn how to make ketchup! When we make predictions about nonfiction we use photographs and bold words to help us. Making predictions help us to become better readers!

The Daily 5

The students in 2G have been practicing "Read to Self". We do this to become better readers and to have fun! While reading to self we read quietly, stay in one spot, get started right away, read the whole time, and build stamina! We made it to 10 minutes! When we get to 20 minutes we'll have a Stamina party! Yea!

This past Friday, we started "Write to Self". This is just like "Read to Self", but we're writing instead! We started with 3 minutes and are working on building stamina! We hope to be at 8 minutes by the end of the week! I know we can do it!
