We made paper lanterns in our room to celebrate Chinese New Year. We also learned how to say hello in Chinese... Ni hao!!!! In another room we did a play. A different project we created were murals. In Mrs Simmons room, we watched a movie about money. In Miss Schaffer's room (the firehouse), we learned about fire safety. We can tell it is a windy day by looking to see if people are flying kites, if the grass is moving, if the tree branches are moving, and by looking at pinwheels. An anemometer is a tool to use if you want to see how fast wind is moving. Today, we used paper and straws to make pinwheels. Pinwheels and anemometers are similar because they both move in the wind and we can use them to see how fast the wind is blowing. If the wind is strong the pinwheel moves ridiculously fast. If the wind is weak the pinwheel moves slow. We had fun making our pinwheels! We had an incredible windy, wind day.

Science!!!!!

We finally started science! We started learning about Air and Weather. Today, we learned that air takes up space. We learned this by blowing up balloons. Air can move things. We learned this by blowing things with a straw. If you blow something up in the air with a straw you can get it to float in the air! We tried this with styrofoam balls, cotton balls, a piece of paper, and feathers. All of those things were in our "Air Bags". The styrofoam balls looked like disco balls. In addition, we learned that there are 3 kinds of matter: solids, liquids, and gasses. Air is a gas. We had fun today in science! We liked experimenting.

American Education Week

I wanted to thank all of our American Education Week guests! Don't forget to vote.

Pumpkin Math Pictures

Pumpkin Math

We had fun with our pumpkin math! We had fun carving our Jack O'Lanterns. First, we estimated and made predictions about the size and the amount of seeds. Then, we measured our pumpkins. Next, we cut the top off the pumpkin! We had to get all the seeds out of the goo! It was very slimey! We counted the seeds in our pumpkins. One goup's pumpkin had 408 seeds! We got to carve the pumpkins! At the end we had to wash our hands because they were soooooo sticky! We got all messy! I hope we talk about it again!

Write to Self Stamina Party

Today we had lemonade and cookies because we got to 20 minutes for Write to Self! We played "Penny Plate" in math. We watched a short video about odd and even numbers. In reading, we read Dragon Gets By. We got messy in art. Also, we got to go to P.E! Miss Erin joined our class to help out! She is very nice and helpful. We had a fun day! We do this to become better readers and to have fun! While reading to self we read quietly, stay in one spot, get started right away, read the whole time, and build stamina! We made it to 10 minutes! When we get to 20 minutes we'll have a Stamina party! Yea!

This past Friday, we started "Write to Self". This is just like "Read to Self", but we're writing instead! We started with 3 minutes and are working on building stamina! We hope to be at 8 minutes by the end of the week!
